the early days Beggs & Partners was catering very
much for the plumber and the tradesman. And while
the company has not lost sight of its core business
Beggs & Partners is today much more than a dedicated
plumbers merchants outlet.
All
four branches in Belfast, Ballymena, Newtownards
and Maghera feature a comprehensive bathroom showroom
with numerous working displays. The importance of
product showcasing for bathrooms is fully recognised
- Belfast boasts over 36 full displays while Ballymena,Newtownards
and Maghera have 20 displays each.
With
the arrival of natural gas in the province, Belfast
added a dedicated gas showroom which has achieved
much success.
Trade
facilities at all four branches are second to none
supplying anything from a small washer to the largest
boiler. All common items are available off the shelf
while a fleet of modern lorries look after the deliveries.
Over
the years Beggs & Partners has aligned itself
to some of the biggest names in plumbing related
products and bathroom design and manufacture. Names
like Yorkshire Imperial, Wednesbury Tube, Tyrell
Tanks, Ideal Standard, Armitage Shanks, Aqualisa,
Mira, Hepworth, Twyford, Pegler, Baxi, Myson, Potterton
and Ferroli to name but a few. The company can justifiably
claim to have played its part in introducing many
innovations to the region.

plans to split the group up by separating the furniture,
bathroom business and homeswares business.
On 30-Jul-2001, the Company demerged Collins &
Hayes Ltd furniture business. On 17-Aug-2001, the
Company demerged Airbath International (UK) Ltd, Aquarius
Bathroom and Brampton Housewares bathroom business.
The ongoing operations within the Company will be
Welwyn Lighting Designs Ltd and Turner Brothers (Candlewick)
Ltd. Upholstered furniture accounted for 38% of fis
2001 revenues; baths and bathware, 32% and homewares,
30%.
