FRANCE
 In France the International Thalassotherapy Federation "Mer & Santé," was born in 1986 and aims to publicise Thalassotherapy and its benefits throughout France, and make its treatments more accessible through its nearly 60 thalassotherapy treatment centres. These centres offers pools of various depths and temperatures, walking pools for the immersion of the feet and arms, and also areas dedicated to mud treatments.
The waters come from uncontaminated ocean sources, never more than 500 metres offshore. The hygeine standards are particularly high, with even the saline contraction of the water being closely monitored. The treatments are based on the principle of heat transmission through the water, mud and sand, often using an alternation between high and low temperatures.
As the stataistics show, Thalassotherapy is particularly popular in France, especially amongst the younger population. This group take advantage of the many weekend thalassotherapy packages offered by treatment centres to relax and fight the stress caused by the hectic pace live in the cities.
